Ridiculous Stories from Walker Land

  • My Husband, obviously…

We have a mattress we’ve been sleeping on that came straight out of 1985. Decided we would splurge on a top of the line Nectar Adjustable Bed System.

Also, keep in mind that he complains every morning for years that he “can’t sleep” “tosses and turns” plus, I keep him up with my snoring.

Well, I got the bed, with twin xl mattresses so I could sleep with a raised head and he could sleep flat if he wanted. (Yes! This DID help with my snoring! Hallelujah!)

But then he says the beds too soft, he can’t move, and he basically hates everything about it. So I emailed Nectar and asked them to replace his mattress with a firmer option. The customer service team actually picked up the phone and called me. (I was super impressed with this. That’s next level!) He explains that it can take up to 30 days for someone to get used to a new mattress, so was hesitant to replace immediately. OK bud, you’re the expert. What do we do? So they sent 2 firm mattress toppers. This did not help.

But I knew we’d have to wait 30 days to get a new mattress, and Josh was NOT going to sleep on this thing for that long. (He has issues with patience.)

So I took matters into my own hands. I tried to research firm toppers but nothing I found seemed like it would be good enough. I considered putting plywood under his side. If he wants to sleep like he’s in prison, so be it…

    Just kidding. Sort of.

We had a ton of cardboard boxes laying around from some Amazon purchases, so I cut them up, rolled them out for flexibility, found some duct tape (cuz if you can’t duct it, f#^k it) …and I got to work.

I did all of this while he was gone, slipped my new “firm bedding” into the bottom of the topper, and reset the bed.

Yall. This was genius! He got a great biggest sleep, the adjustable options still work well because the cardboard is pliable, and I think I’ll get to keep my beautiful (but expensive) new bed!

Here are some pictures of the stages… I also forgot to add that he ALSO hated the divider in the middle. The mattresses kept separating and he would fall through the cracks with all his tossing and turning.

My solution there is the “Bedbinder Deluxe” which I picked up from Amazon for like $20. It didn’t have the greatest reviews but I decided to try it anyway, and it really does work well! … I did put on a flat sheet over it so we wouldn’t habe to sleep right on top…
